Quick Fiction: Sweet Tooth


The cookie lay on the floor between them. Eyes met. Fingers twitched. Who would move first?

The smaller one lunged, but the larger one ducked. Victory! The corner of her mouth twitched up into a smile.

His tears fell, hot and angry. Cheated! Out of a cookie!

She knelt, opened her arms. No cookies, but they share a hug. Faces relax. The day goes on.

    Yeah, can you tell that there are NO MORE COOKIES left in my house? I miss the Christmas cookies. There were so many – chocolatey, sugary, amazing confections that come around once a year. It’s so sad when they’re all gone.
