Everybody Loves A Winner!

April 28, 2008

Okay, I know you’ve been waiting with bated breath, right? So here we go, the big announcement of my winners. You can visit the master list of Carnival winners over at Bloggy Giveaways.

Giveaway #1
Comment #65: Tiffany of All That Blooms, who said:

I’ve really been wanting to get into scrapbooking. My main inspiration is for my future children. I think it would be great to make scrapbooks of/for them. I would also love to make one after my wedding. (Assuming I don’t hate all the pictures ;))

Giveaway #2
Comment #17: Kristenkj of No Small Thing, who said:

I know…I’ve clicked and typed my name and address on quite a few of these giveaways…it is really fun! But I’m so unlucky, I probably won’t win a single thing. Oh well, it has been fun just the same!

I like the pink with brown circles cup sleeve. Very cute and chic, too!

Thanks for offering, of course, I hope I win!!!

Giveaway #3 – Comment #11
Bodhi’s Mom, no blog, who said:

I am a california girl living in kansas and though it may not be a regional delicacy I love the fried pickles that I found since I moved here.

And guess what? My luck didn’t run out last quarter! I won something this time, too! You can click over to Rebecca’s place at Ramblings by Reba to see the BEAUTIFUL print (Dogwoods II) that will soon be gracing my walls! Now I just have to decide where to put it!

Plus, I get to try a sample size of LaundryTree Soap Nuts, from Lisa at LaundryTree!… and bath salts from Butterfly Scentsations! AND, that’s not all! Tamara at At Home…In Alaska decided to give her prize away to ALL her entrants, so I also ‘won’ a week of ad space for my etsy shop! How cool is that, huh?

Updated Tuesday morning: Holy heck! I also won a sweet set of burp cloths from Whim-Z-Wear from Adventures In Poop! I picked this adorable design… (but of course it will have Smooch’s real name on it!). And at this stage, they are more like all-purpose spill-wiping, great cloth napkins for picnics, cloths, instead of just “burp cloths.” Right? Right.

First comes the carnival, then comes…

April 26, 2008

the list of new friends! You know, all the amazing fun stuff that people are giving away is fantabulous. Seriously. There are at least three or four that I am DYING to win. I’ll hardly be able to sleep tonight waiting for people to start drawing numbers! I wonder if there’s any way to kiss up to Random.org… But that’s not even the coolest part. Every single time there’s a carnival, I end up finding a whole handful of new blogs to get to know and love. And heck, I’m a giver – so I always put my list up here to share with y’all!

We are THAT family!
Life With Three
Canned Laughter
Imperishable Beauty
A Box of Chocolates
The Library Collective
Such The Spot

Check ‘em out. I think their places look fun!

Southern Breakfast, Midwest Snack (or, Bloggy Giveaway #3)

April 24, 2008

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks!

PhotobucketWell, hi again! I’m guessing that you’re here for the carnival. If this is your first visit, I’ve got a couple of other giveaways up from earlier this week – scroll down to check them out. During the last Carnival, the bloggy giveaway fairies must have sprinkled me with winner dust, because I won a bunch of prizes. This time around, I figured that I’d create a few of my own packages –each one telling a little bit about me– and pay the giveaway fun forward.

Right now, my family lives in the Midwest. We’ve been here almost a year, and I have to say I’ve been surprised by just how much I love it, how quickly it’s started to feel like home. Before this, other than a brief stint in South Florida for my husband’s medical school, I’ve always lived in the south. My grandmother is the consummate Southern lady – her speech is genteel, her personality is sweet and gracious, and her cooking takes your breath away. Her specialty is an astonishing breakfast buffet, a spread that my brother dreamed about during our long months between visits. A few weeks ago, when my brother visited me here at my new house, I had the immense pleasure of whipping up a big breakfast of my own for our two families. Something deep inside me felt like I’d completed another full circle - from being a kid who clamored for my grandmama’s family breakfast, to being a real grown-up and making those same memories for my son and nephew – and I realized that for me, a lot of family memories are connected to family meals.

So that brings me to the subject of this giveaway package. A little taste of home, from me to you! Your makings for a delicious Southern breakfast include: biscuit mix (no, it’s not the same as grandmama’s recipe, but it’ll do in a pinch), gravy mix (because what’s a biscuit without the gravy?), and coffee (because I truly believe that no good morning begins without coffee). Good additions to this breakfast would be bacon or sausage, fried or scrambled eggs, sliced tomatoes, or fried chicken, but since I can’t figure out how to put those in the mail, you’re on your own there. And then, in a nod to my new home, a little Midwestern snack. Did you know that you can make your own microwave popcorn without buying those little pre-packaged bags? I’ll send you popcorn kernels and six lunch bags, along with a few seasoning suggestions from local friends.

This giveaway is open to anyone with a US mailing address. Just leave a comment on this post by Friday, April 25th telling me where you’re from (just the general region is fine!) and your favorite regional delicacy. Make sure to enter your email address in the little box (it will NOT appear on my blog; I will not put you on any mailing lists, I swear!) so I can get in touch with you if you win! I’ll use a random number generator to draw a winning comment on Monday, April 28th, and post the winners here after emailing them.

Writing this post has made me hungry, so I’m off to whip up a little snack. (Just what my waistline needs, right?)

Earth Mother Love

April 23, 2008

Do you know the crunchy domestic goddess? She rocks! I love her blog, I love her tweets, I love her online stores. Right now, in honor of Earth Day and Mother’s Day, she’s hosting the mother of all giveaways over at her place. You really, really, must check it out.

Whether you’re already a certified crunchy nut, or a decidedly soggy flake who is just beginning to “think green,” this giveaway package will excite you. I mean, gorgeous earrings, a ready-to-plant tree (because if your weather is anything like mine, you suddenly WANT to go outside and dig in the dirt, right?), eco-friendly cleaning products, and beautiful t-shirts with meaningful messages…. what more could a girl want?

Go, click. Maybe you’ll win. (Or maybe I will, and you can be the runner-up! See, fun for both of us!)

Sweet Hour of Sanity (or, Bloggy Giveaway #2)

April 22, 2008

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks!

So, in case you hadn’t heard, I have a two year old son. He is adorable (he gets that from me), and funny, and pretty laid-back (he gets that from his father). But he is TWO. And every few weeks, he seems to go through a patch when he is even more TWO than usual.

When that happens, I have a parental coping mechanism that kicks into gear. It’s called my Sweet Hour of Sanity. (Actually, I just made that name up on the spot for this post. How’s that for truthiness?) On those days, when Gruff calls to say he’s on his way home from work and chat about our day, I mention that I need to get out. So after dinner, and bedtime, when Smooch is all tucked in and none the wiser, I grab my bag and my keys and I unplug from the Mommy grind for a little while.

The routine varies – sometimes I meet a friend for a quick bite and window-shopping. Sometimes I go to the fabric store to get inspiration for a new project. But by far, my favorite way to unwind is to hit the corner Starbucks (my pick for spring? Decaf iced skinny cinnamon dolce latte.) and then our local library. This is the first library I’ve ever visited that allows you to bring drinks inside – and they have a beautiful outdoor courtyard, plus multiple comfy couches, chairs, and tables, and lots of free outlets and free wireless access. Sometimes I bring along my idea notebook and jot ideas down; sometimes I bring my laptop and write; sometimes I grab a book from the stacks, prop up my feet, and lose myself in a story. But no matter what I do, I head home an hour or so later feeling refreshed and ready for another day with my busy boy.

So this giveaway is my attempt to give you, dear reader, your very own Sweet Hour of Sanity. Your package will include a wonderful book by Charles Swindoll, Getting Through the Tough Stuff (because, my friends, we have been through some major tough stuff at the House of Fizz), a designer original coffee-cup sleeve handmade by yours truly, and a $5 giftcard to either Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts (I’ll let the winner choose which one she’d prefer). Convincing your husband to watch the kids while you leave the premises is totally up to you, though – sorry.

This giveaway is open to anyone with a US mailing address. Just click over to my Etsy shop & check out the coffee cup sleeves, then leave a comment on this post by Friday, April 25th telling me which one is your favorite. Make sure to enter your email address in the little box (it will NOT appear on my blog; I will not put you on any mailing lists, I swear!) so I can get in touch with you if you win! I’ll use a random number generator to draw a winning comment on Monday, April 28th, and post the winners here after emailing them.

Are your mouse fingers getting tired yet? I can’t BELIEVE how much clicking I’ve done already… and the Carnival’s not over yet! Don’t forget to check back – I’ve got one more giveaway up my sleeve!

Scrap Happy (or, Bloggy Giveaway #1)

April 21, 2008

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks!

PhotobucketWelcome, Bloggy Carnival-goers! If this is your first time here, I hope you’ll take a little look around Fizzledink. It’s nothing special, but it feels like home to me.

After my great & amazing fortune in the last carnival, I decided it would only be appropriate Bloggy Karma to do multiple giveaways here myself this time. So go ahead – bookmark me and come back over the next few days so you won’t miss anything! Each giveaway is something that I think tells a little bit about me, or something I really love. So the little bonus is that you get to know dear old Fizzy just a little bit better!

First up? Here’s a tidbit for you: I started obsessively taking pictures in 8th grade, and then took a “real” photography class in high school. Originally, I scrapped on 8.5×11 papers that I slid into school-report-style page protectors. *giggle* I’ve come a long way, baby! I have enormous, stuffed-full albums from high school through college. Along the way, I switched to using Creative Memories albums, and right now I’m in the process of retroactively re-scrapping my old albums. As any busy mom can tell you, it’s a lot harder to find the time & space for this hobby now that a toddler’s around… but it’s also more important to me than ever to have our photos and stories documented for Smooch, and it’s also become one way I de-stress when I just need some quiet time all to myself. I just can’t shake this idea that it’s incredibly important for me to keep our family history, because if something ever happened to me or my husband I’d want our children to know as much about us as possible. (I know, that sounds a little morbid, but it actually makes me feel happy when I think about it, not morose or depressed.)

Which brings me to my first giveaway – a great little package of scrapbooking goodies. I’ll be honest, these are things that I’ve had around for a while and don’t find myself using. I just recently started a small business with these products, and I am SO in love with CM stuff that these little things have fallen by the wayside. If you’re not as exclusively minded, though, you’ll love it!

A package of loose paper with titles & slogans, “LMNOP” – a book of decorative lettering, two templates (one shapes, one lines for journaling), a set of looseleaf layout and album idea pages, “99 Best Secrets for Scrapbook Success” – a book of scrapbook tips & tricks, and five packages of spring embellishments (flowers, butterflies, etc).

Disclaimer: I may actually add a few things to this package before it goes out in the mail to you, if I find anything else in my craft room between now and then! :)

This giveaway is open to anyone with a US mailing address. Just leave a comment on this post telling me either: the motivation behind your love for scrapbooking, OR describe an album you are working on or have completed, OR one reason you think scrapbooking’s not for you. Make sure to enter your email address in the little box (it will NOT appear on my blog; I will not put you on any mailing lists, I swear!) so I can get in touch with you if you win! I’ll use a random number generator to draw a winning comment on Monday, April 28th, and post the winners here after emailing them.

Happy Carnival-ing, and I hope to see you again!

Coming Soon!

April 11, 2008

April 21-25

Oh, people, it’s almost that time again! Remember the last Carnival of Luck Bloggity Goodness? Well, start flexing those fingers and get ready for another week of clicking and entering and holding your breath to see if you’ve won!

This time, yours truly will be giving away a few fun thingies here. I mean, I think I owe it to the great karmic circle to give back after my amazing haul back in January. That week kept me smiling for a whole month… and now it’s my chance to make one of YOU smile!

I feel so special!

February 4, 2008

Oh goodness. You just won’t believe it. Seriously, go ahead, guess. Did you guess?

I won. Not once, not twice, not three times — FOUR BLOGGY GIVEAWAYS. Can you even believe it?

I can hardly wrap my head around it. It’s crazy! It’s exciting! It’s special! Wanna hear about the awesomeness that was my weekend?

First, I got an email from Elaine at The Miss-Elaine-ous Life on Friday. I won a neat-o 12×12 photo album and scrapbook layout. (Now I just need to find quiet time to sit and scrap!) I was so cheered up by the news – my cold is dragging on, and Gruff’s is worse (if you can imagine that – a man… a doctor…. with a horrid cold. Oh, the drama!) – and I had a thousand things to do for Smooch’s birthday and was feeling tired and overwhelmed. Then? Opened up the email and felt my heart lift a little bit!

On Saturday, I got an email from Peter at Walking the Line. He said he’d used a random number generator to pick a winner and it wasn’t me. (My first thought was, Huh? Then why email me?) Thank goodness I kept reading! He decided to pick a runner-up and giveaway TWO of his Photoshopped picture collages, and I won the second one! We emailed back and forth a bit on Saturday and I decided to use some of the photos from Smooch’s birthday, so I can’t wait to see how it turns out. How awesome is that?

I checked my email again, later on Saturday, and found one from Carrington of Capri by the Lake. She is getting back into her Arbonne business now that her son is a few months old, and she was giving away an Arbonne tinted moisturizer and pretty, sheer lip gloss — and I won! (Can I just say that this one was purely in the nick of time, because I *heart* using tinted moisturizer as an alternative to a full-on makeup treatment, and I’m almost completely out of mine?) I could NOT believe my good fortune. How amazing!

And then. OH, and then. Sunday night I was online during the Super Bowl (they were playing football? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had important blogging to do! I know – I didn’t post here. But my family blog had to be updated with birthday-cake-&-presents pictures, because the grandparents? They will go CRAZY on your ass if you let those things slide, especially if a certain grandmother wanted to come up to visit for the birthday and you told her no, you were not up for company. She may have given me a teeny, tiny, short guilt trip about at least seeing some pictures of her sweet grandbaby on his second birthday since she couldn’t be with him!). I checked my email one last time and do you know what? Michelle at The Monk’s Wife had dropped me a line saying my email link wasn’t working – but she needed to get in touch with me because I won her giveaway! People. Do you know what Michelle was giving away? Pampered Chef! A whole bunch of goodies by Pampered Chef! I could just die. I was so excited – and Gruff thought maybe I was watching the game and caring about the players on that one team, but really I was just envisioning myself using a new Cake Tester and reading some awesome new recipes. Poor man. I just don’t share his interests; don’t you feel sorry for him? (Nah, me neither.)

Now – I am working on a special birthday hoopla post about my sweet little Smooch, and also a follow-up post about my political quandry, and also a few other things that I can’t remember off the top of my head. So stick around this week – it looks like we might have broken through the “blah” and found the mojo once again! Hurrah!

*EDIT: I actually won five giveaways!!! Melissa of Pink Paper Peppermints left me a comment (and apparently a couple of emails that I didn’t get – darn Gmail!) to say that I’d won her awesome bucket of valentiney paper goodies and a calendar, too. Does anyone else think I should go play the lottery tonight?*

We….. have a winner!

February 2, 2008

The winner of the $10 Cracker Barrel gift card is:

Amy, of Brown Eyed Girl! She’s a new blogger, so go check her out and leave a comment – remember in your early days, how exciting it was to get comments? Ah, who am I kidding. I’ve been blogging a long(ish) time and I still get all verklempt over comments.

The giveaway carnival was so much fun – and it’s really not quite over yet, since many bloggers decided to do their drawings on Sunday.  I was impressed by how many gave away something homemade and handcrafted, and the themed packages that were put together were so creative! I was so inspired that I’m already working on my next giveaway. (Even though Shannon swears it won’t be for at least three months so her family can have time to recover from this one!)

Tomorrow is my Smooch’s birthday. (I swear to God: this year, I will not disappear off the face of the earth right before his birthday.) I’ve got a cake cooling and I’m trying to figure out how to create a home-made version of the Backyardigans characters. I have to finish sewing the satin binding on his blanket, and I have to decorate the dining room. And Gruff? He’s having an XBox duel with a friend while I’m doing all this. (Insert sighs and eyerolls here.)

Bloggy Giveaways Carnival! *now closed*

January 28, 2008

Shannon, she of Rocks In My Dryer fame, is hosting another amazing carnival of giveaways! I had so much fun entering these back in the fall — seriously, folks, there were well over 400 blogs participating! All giving something away for free! Amazing! — that I told Gruff I was going to participate in the next one. And lo and behold, the time has come. It’s the Bloggy Carnival and I’m giving away right along with hundreds of other bloggers! Woo-hoo! (Ed. note: the carnival went live at 8 a.m. It is now 9:24 and I’m #178 on the list. This is going to be BIG, people.)

I thought and thought about what to give away. I noticed a lot of gift cards at the last one, and I for one was ALL ABOUT entering those giveaways, let me tell you. Plus, a gift card is easy-peasy to mail to whoever wins. Plusalso, it is easy to buy and have ready for the carnival (unlike my first idea, to handcraft some little piece of artsy crafty fabric-y goodness, which would invariable be not quite finished by the time the carnival rolled around). So then the question was, what kind of gift card should it be?

No sense in keeping you in suspense – there’s no big relevatory reason I chose this particular one. We were having a nice breakfast at Cracker Barrel a few days after Christmas when I decided to share the love: I’m giving away a $10 gift card to Cracker Barrel.

You can fill up with hot coffee and a big heaping plate of Momma’s French Toast Breakfast (I’m just saying. That’s what I get every.single.time. But you are free to choose other plates of deliciousness, as you please.) or, if you’re not the eating type (not that I’ve ever met one. But I hear those types of people do exist.) then you can browse in their little front-half-of-the-restaurant Old Country Store and pick up something to complete your collection, like this:

Willow Tree
(Again. Maybe that’s just me.) You can check here to see where the nearest Cracker Barrel is – luckily for me, I’ve never lived more than a few minutes away from one. Nothing beats a CB breakfast, especially on a lazy Saturday morning.

Now here are the rules: you must leave a comment on this post between now and February 1st. You have to use a valid email address, since that’s how I’ll get in touch with the winner. You don’t have to be a blogger, but if you ARE a blogger, I hope you’ll include your URL so I can come by and visit. Last but not least, as much as I love global blog readers, you must have a US or Canadian mailing address to participate. I’ll close comments on Friday and will draw a winner using one of those spiffy random number generator things. (I have no idea how they work, but apparently I don’t have to! It’s like electricity! Just flip the switch and voila – TV on! TV off! But that’s neither here nor there.)

Have fun – and remember to visit the Carnival for the whole list of bloggers who are giving something away this week!
